Mumbai: Shah Rukh Khan has finally received the National Film Award for his acclaimed role in Jawan, marking a historic milestone in his illustrious career.

After a career spanning over three decades, Shah Rukh Khan has won his first National Film Award for his performance in Jawan. This is a long-awaited emotional achievement for one of Indian cinema’s most iconic stars.

Today, the 71st National Film Awards were announced, with Shah Rukh winning the Best Actor award for his powerful performance in Jawan. This is the first time in his 33-year career that he has received this honor. The recognition had been long overdue, as despite delivering numerous outstanding performances, he had been overlooked in the past.

Known as the “King of Bollywood,” Shah Rukh Khan made his debut with Deewana in 1992 and quickly rose to become one of India’s most popular and commercially successful actors. Although he starred in critically acclaimed and blockbuster films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Swades, Chak De! India, and My Name Is Khan, he had never won a National Award until now.

In 2004, he played NASA engineer Mohan Bhargav in Swades, a character yearning to reconnect with his homeland. His restrained and introspective performance broke his romantic hero image. However, that year’s Best Actor award went to Saif Ali Khan for Hum Tum (a romantic comedy).

In 2007, Chak De! India released, where he portrayed hockey coach Kabir Khan, seeking redemption. The film won the National Award for Best Popular Film, but Shah Rukh was once again left out. That year, the Best Actor award went to Hrithik Roshan for Dhoom 2.

In 2010, he played Rizwan Khan, a man with Asperger’s syndrome, in My Name Is Khan, navigating a post-9/11 world. The role earned him international acclaim, but the National Award went to Amitabh Bachchan for Paa (where he played a child with progeria).

Though it took many years, this honor confirms what audiences have long believed: Shah Rukh Khan is not just a popular superstar but also one of Indian cinema’s finest actors.

Alongside the National Award, Shah Rukh Khan has received global recognition for his contributions to cinema. He has been honored with India’s Padma Shri, France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and the Legion of Honour, among other prestigious accolades.
